The Royal Tapestry Factory is a heritage museum located in a building from 1889 that is considered part of the National Heritage, near to the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk) and the El Retiro Park. It houses a noteworthy collection of artisanal tapestries, carpets and coats of arms, as well as a factory area, where the main tools for artisanal manufacture are displayed.
Its location is an architectural complex composed of a main building with three floors adorned with Neo-Mudéjar motifs and with walls made of brick and masonry. On either side there is an auxiliary building in the shape of an L, also made of brick.
Some of its highlights are the great chimney and the corridor of the main building, with tapestries from the 16th to the 18th centuries. A recent refurbishment has also restored the historical garden, with a surface area of some 100 square metres. The cobblestone pavement has been preserved, as have the old laundry and the carpet drying rooms. The museum has four rooms and the garden available for film shootings.
